Charles That Dude ACCT-A-165289 is a 4-year-0ld male who came in as a stray on 5/25. Though he's experienced heightened levels of arousal during his first few days at the shelter, the Dude abides. With proper outlets for his bombastic energy and patient, understanding handlers, he'll be well on his way to becoming the best dog he can be. Behavioral notes: Per staff on 5/27: Took The Dude out on a walk to the play yard and into the behavior eval room to get some new photos. He was excited to exit his kennel, but not so much that he didn't settle down, put four paws on the floor, and allow leashing. Walked well on leash. Slightly hesitant body language outside (hunched posture, head down, ears down) probably due to the drizzling rain, but remained well behaved. Sniffed around a bit in the play yard and was happy to socialize, coming up for pets, giving kisses, leaning in for rubs. In the eval room, he loosened and relaxed into a more playful mood, romped around a bit, showed us "sit for treats (very food motivated). No issues returning to kennel. During a behavioral assessment on 5/26, staff noted: Charles was very sweet when we first got to the room. He sniffed around and explored before approaching us with a wagging tail and soft eyes. He sat for treats but was a little snatchy. He also enjoys giving face kisses and leaning in close to his handler. Charles allowed all handling with a wagging tail, but would freeze and hard stare every so often. He would go back to loose fairly quickly, however, once I tried to engage with play with him he switched on me very quickly. He froze, began flagging his tail, and raises his hackles. He followed me around the room until the other handler grabbed the leash. She pulled him away and he open mouth growled at me while backing into her. ... After a few minutes I could approach him again without as intense a reaction, but he was still stiff and gave hard eye contact. Per staff on 5/26: Needs microchip, unable to place due to dog's hyper activity. Medical notes: During an intake exam on 5/26, staff found Charles That Dude to be in good general health, noting that he's "very friendly, hyper,and happy, is a huge sucker for baby talk.
