This is Cyrus! He is a 6 year old hound mix. He is tiny (under 20 pounds). He is from the "breeder" hoarder situation we helped with for Houston Beagle and Hound Rescue, Inc.. They do excellent work! Out of the 6 hounds we took in from that South Houston rescue several weeks ago, he is by far the most shy. Here is what his current foster has to say: "He is the most feral dog we have ever fostered (and we have fostered many). At first, he wouldn't come inside, wouldn't let us touch him, wouldn't let us leash him, no eye contact and he would run away if we came near. Improvements we have seen in the past 2 weeks: Establishes eye contact, has taken hot dogs from hand, tail is up, he is loving hanging out with our dogs, he will take treats we scatter for him (a type of game), and he loves the water hose. He is not a fan of his medication. He gets 3 pills in the am and 3 in the pm. He takes the tablet pills fine (wrapped in liverwurst) but the one that is a capsule, he does not like. He will realize that it is "that" one and will spit it out and then urinate on it. He is extra salty and spicy. We had a behaviorist come spend a session with him. She thinks he has potential. She also thinks his behaviors indicate not just neglect but abuse by humans, as well. This tracks because he had an injured leg upon arrival. We think he will be a real good boy for someone, one day!
