Duke is a handsome 10-year old male Labrador Retriever/Weimaraner mix who was surrendered by his owner on May 16, 2023 along with Lucky (a young Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler) who had shared their previous home. Duke has a black short smooth coat with subtle chocolate brown shading and white markings on his chest/belly, a long tail, and a sweet face with hopeful innocent eyes, a frosty/silver muzzle, and large floppy ears. This big boy has a sweet easygoing disposition. It was so touching to see him leaning on HSOV Executive Director Karissa Reynolds and looking to her for guidance when she helped him with his photo session just as a light rain shower had started. Duke weighs 78.4 lbs and epitomizes the oft-used phrase 'Gentle Giant'. Duke has not been accustomed to walking on a leash since he had enjoyed the freedom of his owner's farm and had learned to use a 'doggy door' to enter/exit the family home. Duke has already been neutered, so he could go home with his new family immediately with an approved HSOV adoption application. Duke is currently enjoying a spacious room near the lobby of our shelter and is ready to begin interviewing candidates to be his new family.
