STILL HERE AFTER 5 YEARS! We’ve all seen those stories about dogs waiting 200, 300, even 500+ days before being adopted. Well Gilley (short for Gillian ) has been at Save the Strays for almost 1,825 days – an incredibly long time to wait for that special someone to come and take her home. Why is she still here? We can’t say for sure, but we think it’s because she’s a pit bull, and not one of those showy blue pits, either. She’s just a plain yellow dog with scars on her ears. Our hope – even after 5 years – is that someone will look beyond the purely physical and see what a beautiful dog Gilley is inside. At 7 years young, Gilley still has a lot of stamina. She’s just crazy for toys (although she does have a tendency to be very hard on them). But she has slowed down a bit over the past year and is quite happy to just hang out, get a belly rub and take a nap. Because Gilley has been here so long, she may need a little time to adjust to a new home and owner. She’s also lived in a rural environment with few visitors, so she should be introduced to new sights, sounds and people in small doses. Gilley’s also a little uncertain around other dogs, especially if they’re also nervous or too forward, so she might do best in a quieter home where she’s the only dog. We do consider the first two weeks (longer, if needed) following adoption to be a trial period and will take her back if the adoption doesn’t work out. We even return the adoption fee. But that won’t be necessary in this case, because we are completely waiving Gilley’s adoption fee for the right applicant. So how about it? Are you tired of spending Saturday nights alone?
