Adopt Midge a Cane Corso / Mixed dog in Hillsboro, OH (38976512)

Location:
Hillsboro, OH
Description:

Midge is ready for adoption! Midge will need a special adopter though as she is not the dog for everyone or every family situation. MIDGE IS NOT AT THE SHELTER, SHE IS IN A FOSTER HOME, YOU WILL NEED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO MEET MIDGE.UPDATED: What we have learned about Midge- She does like other dogs! She has met dogs over various sizes and sex and proven to be good with all of them. She wants to play and does not challenge other dogs. When Maxwell stole her bone, she just dropped her head and went and found another bone to chew on. Midge may become a house dog afterall! Midge has made progress on coming into the house. She now comes in sometimes on her own or will come in led by a leash. Once inside she does walk around and check things out and then come and lay down next to you. She hasn't messed in the house or tried to get any food off the counters. Midge is a companion dog; she loves to be within 6-10 feet of you but does not insist on being up against you or interfere with what you are doing. She just wants to be nearby. She does lean on you and sit on your feet. She has not licked us much and her face always looks like she is mad at the world, but she isn’t. Midge will bark at strangers when they come to the property, when her foster parents tell her it’s ok, she goes and lays down away from the strangers. This is not uncommon for her breed(s) mix, which we believe to be Cane Corse and maybe some English Mastiff. Midge is the right size, has a docked tail, and has the coat coloring of a Cane Corse. Her jowls are a bit larger than most Cane Corso’s though and that’s where the Mastiff may come in. Technically, Cane Corso’s are part of the mastiff family as well, sometimes known as an Italian Mastiff. In either breed, barking at strangers and taking time to get to know people is a common trait for them, especially if they did not get proper socialization as a young dog. Midge will likely never be a social butterfly with strangers, and she will likely only trust a few people in her life. She doesn’t mind being left out of the parties. Whether Midge lives inside or out, Midge will want a home that she gets to spend a lot of their home time with them, that’s what she wants, to just hang out, get a few pets, chew on hard bones, and be nearby. She also likes tennis balls we have learned. Midge tested positive for Lyme, and we are treating her for that. We also learned that she has bad knees that are likely congenital and will not get better. We've also learned that due to the bad knees her front legs are carrying most of her weight in the front to take the weight off her bad back knees. It will be important that Midge does not get overweight as this will just exacerbate her bad knees and pressure being put on her front legs. Due to her bad knees, we do not suggest kids under 13. Midge's adoption fee is $200, You can apply online for them at https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=sr2794&method=online_form_html&formid=21 OR schedule an appointment to meet her as she is in a foster home NOT in the shelter. We highly suggest the foster to adopt program. Take advantage of our foster-to-adopt program, where you can take any dog 4 mos and older home for a week to make sure it is a good fit before committing to adoption.
