Adopt Moises a White Mixed Breed (Medium) dog in Philadelphia, PA (41466163)

Location:
Philadelphia, PA
Description:

Moises ACCT-A-164415 is a 4 year old male who was brought to ACCT by police as a stray on 5/14. Behavior Notes: On 5/26 staff noted: Moises was much more patient coming out of kennel today! Both times he didn't push and waited for the leash to be secured before coming out. He pulled a lot on the way to the yard both times, stopping when he sniffed but pulling to get those places a lot. Once in yard he explored happily and people watched in his normal fashion. He loved holding his favorite toys and chewing on them, would lie right by my feet while he held them. He also rolled over for belly rubs, and leaned in for all scratches. He loved sitting between my legs and getting head pets as well. Both times he walked a lot better on leash going back to the building as he was a bit tired by then, and would try to walk by my side. Returned to kennel both times without issue. On 5/23 staff noted: Took Moises out for some activity time today. He tried to push out once, but then helped get the leash loop around his head. He pulled pretty strongly as we walked, and used the bathroom a lot. We walked back and forth along grass for a while while he grazed, and then I brought him to the cold club yard when it was empty. He explored around, enjoyed just standing at the fence and looking out, and sniffing through the dirt. He came over for pets, leaning in with mid level wags, a loose body, and soft eyes. He threw his weight on me, partly rolling over, and stood up on my lap too for pets giving me some kisses too. We walked back to kennel and he went right in with no issues. On 5/22 staff noted: Moises was lying down on his bed when I approached, and then got right up when I displayed my leash, giving mid level wags with soft eyes. He gave a couple pushes at the crack but was not difficult to leash. He pulled in the kennels and pulled in spurts while on our walk. He pulls more in open space it seems like, and from stress in the kennels. He can be a bit stubborn on where he wants to go to sniff, but once he gets there he doesn't pull anymore. Eventually he mostly walked right by my side, and enjoyed peacefully sniffing the grass. The cold club yard was taken, so we just continued to walk around, and walk back and forth in the grass. He used the bathroom multiple times, and enjoyed grazing. I would crouch down occasionally and he'd give me mid level wags, kisses, and lean in for pets. He was extremely calm with me, never jumped or mouthed at all. He did get excited to see another dog and did pull towards him, but I was able to nudge him along. We walked back in the kennels, he wanted to go in the grooming room and sniff around there so we went in, and he also greeted a couple people in there as well with mid level wags and a loose body. He went right back into kennel without issue, just briefly grabbed onto the leash as I removed it. On 5/20 Staff Noted: Removed Moises from kennel for vet check/PCR, Moises was very high energy from the start. Moises would jump on myself and doctor during exam, Moises did not show signs of aggressive behavior but would attempt to mount myself and the doctor. Was able to obtain a quality PCR specimen. On return to kennel Moises was visible stressed from the other dogs, as I got Moises into kennel Moises grabbed my isolation gown and began to tug at it then bit leash and tugged on that. I was able to redirect with verbal commands and a treat. Moises seemed very frustrated and high energy but non-aggressive. On 5/20 Staff Noted: Moises was standing at the front of his kennel with soft eyes and mid level wags. I opened the door a crack and he did give an initial attempt to bust out, then backed up for a second as I was able to slip my leash on. He is pretty frantic on leash in the kennels, scurrying trying to get past all the dogs barking. He did briefly interact with a dog in a sidebank, and was loose with mid level wags, very gentle through the kennel. Outside Moises does try to walk better on leash -he goes in phases, sometimes he's walking right by your side, other times he's pulling moderately for a 20 second period. In the play yard, Moises was happy to explore and people/dog watch. He loved standing at the fence and just looking out to the grass and street. Unfortunately Moises is pretty desperate for food at this point, and was searching through the dirt, event putting rocks in his mouth and then spitting them out when he realized they weren't treats. Seems like he really hasn't had regular access to food unfortunately. After a few minutes he greeted me with a loose body and mid level wags, was affectionate leaning into handling, and giving me some kisses as well. We walked back inside, and Moises went straight back into his kennel, scrambling back in. On 5/16 Staff Noted: Moises was on the other side of kennel when I approached. I called to him and he ran across to my side and was wagging and had soft eyes. Did try to push out of kennel but allowed for easy leashing still. When returning Moises was hesitant to walk down his row and began to pull backwards but was able to be lured back while another handler made a trail of treats. He would not step into the kennel at first but then went in for treats being scattered. I had clipped the leash prior to him going back to kennel. When pulling it off his head he bit at it a bit, but then focused on the treats. Pulls moderately on leash. In the room Moises was initially a bit unsure and stiff walking around lip chattering and lip licking. However he warmed up quickly, especially when his favorite staff member entered the room. He began to solicit attention and would wiggle up against the handler, leaning in and rolling over for belly rubs and seeking out attention. he did well when two other handlers entered the room and greeted them with soft eyes and mid level wags. He allowed all handling from everyone in the room without any issues. He was also quite food motivated! He showed knowledge of sit. he took treats gently as times, but other times could be a bit snatchy so watch your fingers! Engages in play. Accepts a trade with toys. It took some time for Moises to get into toys, but once he did he would prance around with them. Allowed the handler to take toys or do trades without any issues. Did display some prey drive with squeakers. On 5/16 Staff Noted: Staff called for help getting Moises back in kennel so I went over. When I got there, staff was fully in his kennel, while the first staff was holding his leash outside of kennel. He was scrambling away wheezing and coughing, and is extremely strong. I looped his belly and lifted him into kennel as the staff member took his primary leash. I then grabbed the main leash and the staff slipped out, as I partially closed the door to get the leashes off. He is very strong, so it is difficult to hold the leash without him pushing back out. As I removed the leash, he did bite it and tug at it. Once I got it off, he jumped up at the bars snapping at them for a few seconds, as I clipped his kennel. I came back a few minutes later to put on a "2 handlers for return" sign, and he was standing at the front with soft eyes and mid level wags, was non reactive when I put my hand up to the door. His eyes are extremely red, as well as above his nose, and he was panting excessively. Put in a traz check, hoping that helps him. Medical Notes: On 5/20 staff noted during an exam: Fear Anxiety Stress 2-4/5 Anxiety Unpredictable behaviors. Anxiety in the shelter environment. On 5/17: Moises was diagnosed with an upper repository infection. A PCR test was done and Moises tested positive for Mycoplasma and Canine Adenovirus Type 2. On 5/15 during an intake exam staff found Moises to be in good general health other than waxy ears.
