At that time the puppies were about 5 weeks old and just following mom as she looked for food. They then spent about 6 weeks in the shelter with no interest. After 6 weeks the shelter was packed with no open kennels and they were asking for help and sent out some photos of dogs who had been there a long time that could end up on the euthanasia list if one had to be made. We let them know we would take them and picked them up the next morning. Sadly the shelter is very small with few staff members and a bunch of dogs- which means that puppies don't really get the socialization they need at a shelter so they were pretty fearful when we got them. Poor little Monica would run from us every chance she got and they hid under and behind their mom. They have now been with us for a few weeks and doing much better but will need patient homes with a focus on love and training- spending as much time as possible with family members and meeting new people. Monica is still a pretty fearful little girl but she is easy to manage and happy overall - she seems to come out of her shell around other dogs and when she is learning.Temperament- Monica has come a long way since coming in. She loves children and will go give them kisses from behind but will run if they try to play with her. She has done wonderful meeting new people and will hang out with us now so she is trying but will need someone special. She is still quite worried but is now letting us touch her but she doesn't want it she tolerates it. She is extremely smart and very treat motivated. She does try and grab my legs with her front paws as I leave their area so she wants me in there but still learning to trust. She doesn't accept cuddles as she didn't grow up with them and will still keep her distance but overall loves learning and very treat motivated. Loves playing with the other dogs and super high energy. She does do the healing/nipping at the ankles/yipping that herding breeds are known for when playing with the other dogs.Energy Level- Very, very high energy puppy- should have another dog to play and run with or a running partner.Dogs/Cats- They love playing chase with the other dogs. Puppies seem drawn to them so always end up in their room wit them to play. They are somewhat scared of the cats for who knows why but they are scared of them and will try and back into a corner or hide behind me if the cats come into where we are sitting. Housetrained- She and Ross are both house trained and crate trained to the laundry room together. Monica is absolutely adorable and is super super smart. She loves kids and trusts them more than adults however she is doing amazing at meeting strangers. She is very food motivated and really, really, really wants to trust people but still keeps her distance with everyone but me. She loves pets now and I think would blossom in her own home. She will make a wonderful addition to any family wanting a special pup to help come out of her shell- this pretty little girl will definitely blossom once she learns to trust her new family.
