Opal von Owen is a stunning, 1-2 year-old, smaller-sized German Shepherd (mix?). Opal is one strikingly-beautiful bicolor girl who will turn heads in the neighborhood. With medium energy, Opal comes out of her kennel happy and ready to walk and likes to stay close to your side while she stops and smells the roses. She does great walking with other dogs and greets them calmly. In the playground, thus far she prefers to hang out and watch from the sidelines but will socialize if other dogs approach her. After a while, she heads over to people for pets and will lean on your leg for back scratches and belly rubs. She is very treat-motivated and will show off her “sit” for treats, which she takes gently from your hand. We are told that Opal is good with kids but no cats for this pup. At around 57 pounds, Opal is the perfect size to sit in your lap (or so she thinks) and get pets while you watch TV. Come and meet Opal today! Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
