My name is Peter, and I am a hound dog with a remarkable tale to tell. Life hasn't always been easy for me, as I had a tough start right from the beginning. For about eight long months, I roamed as a stray, relying on my instincts and resilience to survive. During that time, I encountered a trap that caught my foot, resulting in the loss of most of it. But despite this setback, I refused to let it define me. I am a dog filled with determination and strength, always ready to overcome any obstacle that comes my way. I am an affectionate, charming and handsome hound dog who craves the love and attention of my favorite humans. Nothing makes me happier than curling up on the couch, sharing a warm moment with the people I hold dear. In addition to being a loving companion, I am a remarkably calm and well-behaved dog. Barking is not something I indulge in frequently - unless there is a fox or deer involved. I get along wonderfully with other dogs and enjoyed my time in play groups during my stay at the shelter. For several months, I was lucky enough to find myself in a foster home with a caring adult and another dog. This experience taught me so much about trust, loyalty, and the joy of being part of a family. I also had the pleasure of belonging to a play group that frequently met with people and dogs from the neighborhood, further enriching my social skills and boosting my confidence. Recently, I smoothly transitioned into my current foster home, where I now reside with three adults and their three dogs. I am fully house trained and have had no accidents in either of my foster homes. I get a charge out of exploring the fenced-in yard and going on walks around the neighborhood. With or without a furry friend by my side, I navigate quite well using my prosthesis, showcasing my adaptability. While treats may not be my primary motivator, I am an incredibly intelligent dog. I have started loose leash training and learn quickly, even without the need for rewards. My intelligence and quick learning make me an ideal candidate for further training and activities. Though I have come a long way, I am still a bit on the thin side. But with the right loving and patient family by my side, I know I will continue to flourish. My dream is to have a home with at least one other well-matched dog, as their companionship brings me immense joy. A fenced-in yard would be the icing on the cake, allowing me to explore and enjoy the outdoors safely. I may have had a tough start, but I refuse to let it define me. I am Peter, the resilient and determined hound dog, ready to embark on a new chapter of my life with a forever family who will cherish me for the remarkable dog I am.
