Adopt Pixie a Red/Golden/Orange/Chestnut - with White Terrier (Unknown Type

Location:
Corona, CA
Description:

Meet Pixie! If those ears and eyes haven’t drawn you in… do you even have a pulse? Pixie is a terrier mix (we think baby goat is probably in her DNA), but please take that with a grain of salt, scientists we are not! She is about 10-ish lbs, about 9 months old and probably won’t get much bigger. Her strawberry coat is the classic wire terrier, but a little on the softer side. Before we get much further, we have some stuff to share, because our Pixie comes with some quirks. Pixie is a scaredy cat. New people, new things, new environments… basically, everything new, EXCEPT dogs (she loves them all big and small) are scary AF! Pixie is not the pup that you will meet and fall instantly love with. Well, you may fall in love (that adorable baby goat/fox thing), but she needs some time. Pixie ABSOLUTELY needs another friendly and dog loving dog in the home, first of all. She gravitates and looks to other dogs for social cues. Pixie will open up and come around, but another dog will do most of that work. What will her first few weeks in her forever will look like? Adjusting… her watching and learning that you are safe and a good human. There won’t be hugs, cuddles, kisses and affection seeking behaviors until she feels safe and gets to know you. Pixie will engage with your dog or dogs before she engages with you. She will probably line up for treats after a few days… but, that is it, at least for a while. You have to let her get used to her new life and that means, getting used to you being in it. Patience, patience and more patience are they key words here. But, once she figures that out, she will start getting closer and eventually, she will begin coming to you for some love and affection. Bravery is hard for her, but she has it in her, you just have to let it grow, on her terms. We aren’t talking months, more like a few weeks, but as the weeks turn into months… this girl will blossom into your best buddy. Pixie loves stuffy toys and likes to throw them around in the air, like she just don’t care! Cutest thing ever! She is also a fan of zoomies with her friends. Pixie wants to be a lap dog. She wants to be loved (check her video). It just takes a very patient person. One that will give her the space and time that she so desperately needs. We have no idea if some of this is genetic or environmental. We do know that the fear can and will be overcome, with the right family. She will never be the life of the party with strangers. Pixie probably isn’t ever going to be a social butterfly and won’t enjoy a coffee trip at the local cafe. We think she would prefer to be at home, snuggling, playing with toys, taking cat naps and living the dream in her castle. Pixie is house trained and will need open access to do her business, because those first few weeks are going to be her, literally, being a fly on the wall, watching. She will sneak outside to take care of biz, but walks will be a work in progress, once she trusts you enough to put the leash on. If you’ve made it this far, please know… we, understand that it’s a lot. We just want to be honest and set realistic expectations. Pixie has spent the last several weeks, learning to be dog and figuring out that she is safe. She has made great strides. We are proud of her and believe that the perfect home is out there. Pixie has many moments of light hearted play and she is actively asking for her foster mama to give her some lovin’. Huge for her, but we know how far she’s come and the shift to trust and be brave is happening. We know Pixie is tough one, but we also know that Pixie deserves to feel safe and cherished forever and ever. If you have a special place in your heart for helping an amazing, brave, chicken little pooch transform into a sweet, playful and loving gal… and you’re into strawberry, blonde billygoats, look no further :)If you are interested in adopting, please visit the I.C.A.R.E.
