Adopt Pixie a White - with Tan, Yellow or Fawn Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed dog in

Location:
Philadelphia, PA
Description:

All you need is a little bit of Pixie dust! Meet Pixie! This ADORABLE mixed aged lady came to ACCT on 6/11 as a stray. Her finder noted that while she was very people friendly, she did not seem to like other dogs. Pixie did great in our care and loved everyone she met! Due to her loving and social personality Pixie was quickly adopted out, but came back to us on 6/19 due to her reactivity with other dogs. Since being back in our care Pixie has been her usual lovable self! She can be reactive on leash and in the kennels to other dogs, but with a slow intro and meeting them face to face she has done well. Pixie would do best with a slow intro to any resident dogs and likely would not do well with cats due to her prey drive. Pixie is a very lovable girl with lots to offer her future family! Recently Pixie went on a weekend foster trip and her foster had this to say about her, "She likes butt scratches and chew toys, she does chew the dog bed but is redirected pretty easily. She seems to prefer stuffy toys she can tear and chew on more than harder chew toys. She doesn't seem to be destructive and can be left alone without issue. She takes treats gently and really likes to just lounge with you or by you on the couch and get pets. During the thunderstorm earlier she had no reaction to the loud thunder, even snored through most of it. she doesn't mind car rides and likes the wind in her face. She does pull hard on a leash especially toward other dogs or people. She has no problems with any people but I haven't brought her near any dog because I struggle to handle her on the leash. She's a strong girl!! she walks in and out of the crate I have set up but when told to go in she just looked at me. She's pretty quiet, only barked when she saw someone outside twice. She hasn't barked outside near people though. Upon returning from her weekend trip Pixie was noticed to be more lethargic than usual and had vomit in her kennel. She was given a medical examination and thoracic and abdominal rads were taken (results pending). Pixie also has been stressed to be at the shelter and on 7/11 was noted to be reactive to multiple staff members passing by her kennel, which is very out of character for Pixie. Due to Pixie's current medical and behavioral concerns she urgently needs to leave with an adopter, foster, or rescue partner who can care for her needs. Per staff 6/20: Took Pixie out to get a dog meet for her given her reactivity this morning. She does tend to fixate on dogs when walking past -pulling hard towards them and it's difficult to redirect her. When we got to the welcome center dogs however, she was a lot less fixated. She was a bit stiff at first with a high tail but began wagging and politely sniffed Nami and Joey through the fence, and even began to play a bit with Nami. She would lose interest on her own and continue sniffing the grass and then go back for a bit. Sweetie also was very reactive to her through the fence and she had no reaction. Per staff 6/12, "Slightly stiff when passing other dogs, but remained unreactive. Pixie was loose and wiggly throughout our time together. She is very affectionate and social! She had a very waggy tail and would explore the room and trot back to me often soliciting attention. She was very gentle and well mannered and would calmly lean against me while wagging, seeking out pets. She hopped onto the couch next me laying down beside me resting her head on my lap and seeking out attention. If I stopped petting her she would continue to lean against me, wag, and give kisses. She took treats gently as well and showed knowledge of sit. Pixie had great manners with toys. She would chase them and bring them back to me, dropping them at my feet. She also would allow me to take the toy from her mouth to throw." Per Foster 6/18, Pixie is the definition of a lap dog even though she's over 40 lbs. She loves cuddles, kong toys, cheese bones and sunbathing through the windows! She is getting much better with her leash pulling as well. She's very friendly with other humans, dogs and other animals she is not, but I'm sure this could be worked on if she was given the time. Pixie is a sweetheart who loves human affection and just Videos: Pixie meets welcome center dogs!: https://youtube.com/shorts/csZ-cwclRvo?feature=share Pixie Plays with a Stuffed Animal: https://youtube.com/shorts/dPwJ5HjsfAY?feature=share Pixie Plays with a Tennis Ball: https://youtube.com/shorts/B0z4nU7m6Mg?feature=share
