Meet the Houla BOYS! Bongo and Pongo are a bonded pair, not bio brothers but they are definitely two halves of the same heart! Bongo is the baby of the pair, at approx. 6 years old and weighing in at about 50 lbs. Although younger, he is the protective brother. Bongo is a gorgeous Black and Gray Catahoula with a big, confident personality. He will let you know what he likes and doesn’t like with a loud sigh, a sassy bark back or even a nose kiss if his wiggly butt and quick tail don’t propel him right past you. There are not many things that you can do to discourage Bongo, he is pretty unphased by most things, even tolerating car rides and bath time. His one vice is Cats. He does not like them at all and has -100% interest in being friends. He would much rather just love and live among his human family and friends and his big brother! Pongo is the ‘Regal’ big brother of the duo. Pongo is a stunning White and Gray Catahoula. He is not only bigger in age, by a year, but he stands a bit taller and is a bit longer than his little bro. However, much like his brother, he is not missing any groceries and weighs about 50 lbs also. Pongo is a bit less confident and that might have something to do with his slight sight impairment. If something is very close to his face, he may not recognize that it is there and turn right into it. We have been known to say “oooh, that had to hurt” a few or more times in this house. Regardless, he is the happy-go-lucky one once he settles in. He lives for evenings of laying on laps and all the belly rubs. Cats are not a vice for Pongo, he only barks at the cat because his little brother is watching and you know, reputation and all.  The boys are house, and crate trained. They sleep in the crate together every night without issue.  They are smart as whips and thrive on structure and routine. They will most likely be doing what you need them to do and go where you need them to go before you make much of a sound or step.  They do have bouts of high energy but given their age and their love of naps, those bouts are typically short lived.  They don’t know what toys or random dog beds placed around the house are to be used for. BUT they do love a couch and a good bone! The boys are good with children and adults but do prefer females over males. They love the outdoors and walk well on leash. They don’t seem bothered by the squirrels and the rabbits but watch for a wandering cat(s).  They are very treat motivated and ice cream is their absolute favorite! They don’t like loud noises, banging, car doors, etc. They will bark in displeasure until the source of the noise stops. The boys do show some concern when they are separated from each other. They whine and pace until they are in each others site again. Oh, Brothers! They enjoy when their human friends come to see them, but each visit starts like an episode of groundhog day… same people and same dogs but they have to make sure they do all the protective doggy things each time. We love that it is their way of ensuring that no harm comes to their favorite humans, the ones who get to wish them sweet dreams every night. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered. Huck’s adoption donation is $450 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test, is on preventative, microchip and neuter depending on age at time of adoption. We do not have a physical shelter; all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.
