After the loss of two senior dogs last year to cancer, my wife and I wanted to adopt a small breed dog for our son's birthday. We went to the shelter and saw these two adorable rat terrier sisters. They are really attached to each other, so we adopted both dogs and do not want to separate them. When we got them home, it became obvious that they were most likely either very traumatized from the shelter process or were abused in some way previously. We have worked diligently over the past several months in trying to train both dogs however we have not been able to make much progress & they are still fairly skittish. They are simply not a good fit for our family - we have many young children and babies daily in our yard (for swim lessons). They really need someone who has experience with dogs who has both the time and training to help these dogs through their issues. Both dogs are very sweet but they are just more than we can currently handle.
