A volunteer writes: The first time Pretty Girl came into the shelter they called her Momma. With mammaries swollen from a recent or many too many litters, the name suited her. But as quickly as she came in she was rushed out. Blood was dripping from her, and a bout of diarrhea contained so much blood she was rushed to the emergency hospital where she spent the next several days. When she came back she was renamed to Pretty Girl, a name just as descriptive in my opinion. Another name might be Hungry Girl, as she is skin and bones. We feed her and she rewards us with adorable chompies before she explores our bags for more snacks. A pup this skinny is fed 3 meals a day at the shelter to put on weight in a safe and measured way, and Pretty Girl looks better today than when we met her. It's hard to imagine what her past was, there are no details other than she was brought in by police and clearly used for breeding. But in her future I imagine her more healthy and beautiful by the day, never asked to bear another litter, and loved for a lifetime. Pretty Girl is only 2 years old and has plenty of time to make up for lost time.
