Ruger is most often called Rug because he lays down like a bear rug. Rug is very friendly w/people, but needs to be an “only child” so no other pets in the home. He’s neutered & on Prozac which to combat anxiety; he will be on it long term, but it’s an inexpensive generic. He startles easily w/noises. An unexpected noise like a can dropping or an acrylic clamshell popping open can send him running across the room. The sound of an off balance washer, a lawnmower, motorcycle, fireworks or thunder can also distress him & cause him to run manically or pace & shake depending on how loud the noise is and how long it lasts. His vet Rx’d a medication called Sileo that helps him w/nervousness & reactivity to noises when we know that they will occur, such as fireworks or thunder. He guards food & my husband; he’s been aggressive w/our other dogs—NO bites. He needs a home w/out young kids because of his startling & guarding; he’d be ok w/big kids (12+). He’s had training & it should continue.
