Anatolian Shepherd Fans Unite, we have a big boy for you! Scar, (we didn't name him!) This is the tale of redemption. Scar was found in a horrid situation, removed after a cruelty investigation. Our gentle giant arrived, scared of his own shadow, a skinny shell of what he should be, 6yrs old, 72 pounds (that is not a lot for this big boy) But, with multiple feedings he is slowly gaining weight. He is even starting to smile. Mini-milestones are what makes this story legendary. Even from his horrible start, he is making strides. He arrived with his sister (same breed/also underweight), who is much more confident then he. They are not bonded and he is recommended to go home without her. She is a bit pushy when it comes to him. When we gave him his own kennel space, with soft bedding, unlimited fresh water and food he didn't know what to do first. He plopped himself down on his soft bedding and slept. He is loving time on walks, enjoying tasty treats and he even rolled around in our play yard in delight. Space, we know he never had space for his own. Always cramped in a small living environment, forced to share food from a limited source. Scar needs time to gain trust (can you blame him?) the only people he knows didn't Love him. As he gains weight his behavior can change, so we are looking for an experienced home that will understand his day-to-day needs. He is considered an extra large breed (he won't get taller, but he will continue to gain weight), and while he did well with our dog-to-dog interactions we recommend going slow with all new experiences for him. He is good on leash, and will thrive when he knows he can trust you.
