Adopt Shania a Black - with Brown, Red, Golden, Orange or Chestnut Belgian

Location:
Palo Alto, CA
Description:

Update:Shania got excellent news this week; her X-rays show that her fractures have healed, and she's cleared now orthopedically to ease into total activity over the next four weeks. Alas, she enjoyed that freedom only for a day as she returned to UC Davis Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital on Sept. 30th for her heart surgery. Her surgery went exceptionally well, she's already discharged following a night at the hospital. Shania's resting comfortably in her foster home, happy to be back home. Shania's procedure requires 4-6 weeks of additional crate confinement for recovery. Although in weeks three and beyond, she'll be allowed leisurely, easy, longer leashed walks than during her orthopedic surgery recovery. Please join us in celebrating the excellent news for this sweet baby. Shania has "class, etiquette, and charm," per her foster mom; although shy at sudden movements, Shania loves snuggles, boop-ing her people and giving little gentle grooming kisses.Shania has been so well-behaved as she's healed that she's earned free time with the resident dogs, hanging out with the family, and enjoying watching TV. And making sure she has a collection of toys with her, whether on the dog bed or in her crate. Sometimes Shania squeaks her toys at night and ends up with her less noisy toys in her crate for everyone's sleep quality. A funny girl, when her morning meal and potty time are over, she collects her soft squeaky toys back in her crate for nap time, snuggling with her soft toys while she sleeps. Shania is still on limited activity, with significant portions of her days either crate confined or right next to her people until her fractured front legs' healing is confirmed via X-rays at her final orthopedic exam on August 28th. Thanks to the Fracture Program for Shelter and Rescue Animals, Shania has been a trooper throughout her orthopedic surgery and weekly follow-up appointments at UC Davis Veterinary Medicine Hospital. Arriving in the ER via Yolo County Animal Shelter after being hit by a car, Shania won the hearts of the ER staff, who also discovered that she had a heart murmur from a blood vessel that hadn't closed up after birth. Thanks to a generous donor, Shania is scheduled for PDA surgery on August 30th to give her a whole and healthy life. Once healed from her PDA surgery, Shania will be spayed to finalize her adoption. We can't wait to show her sweet and emerging playful self as her legs have become steady and her spirit has healed with the love surrounding her in both foster homes. Shania loves to toss her toys in the air and catch them, and play bows are peeking through. Bully sticks, chew toys are gaining popularity with her too. Shania adores all the resident dogs, her tail thumps a mile a minute, and she rolls over on her belly, stretching her legs to touch them or snuggles right up to their crates or the baby gate separating them. She is a good girl; she listens to her foster family's direction to limit her activity, loving her four times-a-day walk-about in the yard for potty. Shania is exceptionally crate trained, has mastered potty training, and rides nicely in the car tethered or crated. Meal times are a hit, and she's got such a soft mouth for taking treats. Shania loves string cheese and frozen pumpkin/yogurt treats; she has a great appetite and takes her meds right in her food bowl with her kibble. Shania shares her primary foster home with cats also, we'll have updates on her cat workability as her veterinary team gives her more freedom. So far, she's been indifferent to them. She's discovering her preference for bedding by making the rounds on all the dog beds. Enjoy her pictures and join us in loving this precious girl and please help us spread the word about her so we can find her the best forever home. ##1778644##
