Adopt Sonny a Tan/Yellow/Fawn Mixed Breed (Medium) / Mixed dog in Philadelphia

Location:
Philadelphia, PA
Description:

Meet Sonny (formerly known as ocean)! His name is fitting as he radiates the most positive energy! He's currently residing in foster care and looking for his forever home. See what his foster mama has to say about him: Sonny is likely between 2-4 years old and has the spirit of a puppy! He has done well with basic commands such as sit, down, and come, and is slowly falling in love with his crate. Due to his puppy behaviors like jumping and mouthing when he's excited, he will need an experienced/patient human to continue to teach him how to be the goodest boy. He is all smiles, all the time and is eager to learn new things! He will do best in a house with a yard to allow him to get all of his zoomies out. Sonny is dog friendly and has done well in his foster home with a "dog selective pooch. The two even enjoy meals together! If you're looking for a loyal boy to build a lifelong bond with, Sonny is your guy! Shelter notes: Meet Ocean! He is a young and energetic boy who was found as a stray in Philadelphia. His finder described him as playful and friendly. He has shown to be quite affectionate to humans and has also had positive dog meets since being in our care. If you are thinking about adding Mr. Ocean to your pack we would recommend a slow introduction. If you feel as though this wavey dude is the right addition to your home. Please come meet him at ACCT Philly today. Medically Ocean came to us as an intact male generally in good health but, was very stressed in our care. This was observed in the kennels and he was seen on 07/10 by staff. Staff stated "This dog is experiencing severe kennel stress. A veterinarian has reviewed their record and confirmed that there are no expected adverse effects of beginning this medication. Staff will monitor for any possible symptoms. While on the medication, this dog may appear artificially calm and more social than if they were not on this medication. ACCT Philly will only provide a few days of this medication to an adopter, who must plan to follow up with an experienced trainer and veterinarian to continue to work with this dog to manage anxiety related behaviors. ACCT Philly cannot guarantee that this dog will revert to social and relaxed behavior out of a kennel setting, however behaviors observed in a home environment have been determined to be most predictive of how a dog will behave in a home, especially when compared to the artificial environment of a kennel or animal shelter. After being medicated Ocean showed stress related improvement however, on 07/19 he was seen again due to an observed "doggy cold. It was assessed during this exam that Ocean had a URI. Staff stated: "This dog has been observed to have shelter acquired upper respiratory infection (URI), or a "doggy cold". They have been started on medication, and will be monitored for resolution of the respiratory infection. They will need a veterinarian to examine them before they receive surgery, if they are not already altered. Since this time Ocean has been medicated and was able to heal from his cold. He continues to struggle with anxiety and this will likely take the right owner to manage lifelong. He will do best in a home with an owner who can help follow up animal care professionals and manage his mental health condition. If you feel as though you can relate to Oceans anxiety and help him feel safe. Please come give this shy boy a chance to shine and adopt him today! Per staff on 07/13: "He is a bit of an anxious boy but really blossoms when outside. He loved running around the big run. He solicits affection with a loose and wiggly body. Ocean can get over excited with a lot of attention so he does need some training. Ocean seemed interested in a stuffed toy but did not take possession. He is much more comfortable getting affection when you are sitting down. He's a big kisser! Ocean met a very excitable puppy through the fence and greeted her politely then walked away when she was too much energy for him. He also met the welcome center dogs and similarly preferred the calmer dogs and walked away from Momo, another excited puppy. Ocean was standing at the front of his kennel with soft eyes and a loose body. I showed him my leash and he started to wag his tail. He allowed me to leash him and he exited the kennel easily.
