Waffles came into rescue with Biscuit, also listed, when their owner surrendered them in an effort to downsize her numbers. We believe Waffles to be a bassett/pitbull mix. He has the body length/build and short legs with the Bassett feet but the head of a pitbull. He is on the smaller side like the Bassett and at 5-6 months of age should not get much bigger. He is a nice sturdy boy for a family but in a smaller package. Waffles weighed 23 pounds as of his vet visit on 5/25/23. Waffles is still a very young boy so he will adapt well I a new home. He gets along well with other dogs and kids. He also had done well with cats in his former home so he has been socialized to them. He seems to prefer women to men but that's probably because his primary caretaker was a woman. He is getting used to my husband but still feels most secure with me. He does love attention though and loves to cuddle. He is crate trained but not yet fully housebroken so you must be prepared to house train. He isn't a huge fan of a leash so he could use some work there. He would probably respond best to a harness,which should be fitted to him especially with his body shape and build to get the best fit. Waffles is an all around great little dog and will make a wonderful family companion. He did see the vet on 5/25/23. Vet noted that he does have a small, non-reducible umbilical hernia (these occur at birth when mom is cleaning them up and pulls too hard on the cord. It should not cause him any issues but it will look like he has an outie belly button) and he also had a grade 1 out of 6 heart murmur. Vet was unsure if this murmur is congenital or if it was related to parasitic anemia, since Waffles did test positive for hookworms and whipworms (we have dewormed him with Drontal). A grade 1 murmur is considered a low grade murmur and should not cause him any major issues. If related to the parasitic infestation, it should correct itself once he is no longer being fed upon. Waffles tested negative for heartworms and started on Simparica Trio for heartworm prevention and flea control. Overall, he is in good health.
