Athena American Staffordshire Terrier Adult Female

Location:
Fort Collins, CO
Description:

Hi everyone! My name is Athena! I am a sweet, loving, 5-year old girl who just cant wait to find her furever family. Maybe thats you?? Here is a bit about me:I loveeeee my humans, but I am not a velcro dog. I will follow you around from room to room because I like being able to see where you are, but I dont need tons of cuddles or to sit in your lap. Im even OK to sleep by myself! I am super low maintenance! My foster mom worked long hours and left me alone to roam the apartment (no crate!), and I was always such a good girl! I never destroyed anything or had anxiety when she left (no barking, crying, whining, etc.). Of course I got a little sad when she would leave for work, but I am a big girl and I knew she would be back! When she came home, I always gave her the best wiggle butt welcome home party and lots and lots of kisses! Also, I am super-duper house-trained no accidents, even on the unfortunate days she had to work late! I like going on walks or running around the dog park, but I am a low-medium energy gal, so I dont need tons of exercise every day. I am obedient and well-behaved I only bark when I hear strange noises that I think you need to be aware of!My foster mom thinks that I may have had some bad experiences in the past, because sometimes I get scared of men I dont know. BUT, if they are just a little patient with me and can show me they are my friend, I will warm up in less than 5 minutes and give them tons of cuddles and kisses I really just want to love everybody! I have lived with other dogs in the past and been fine with calm, docile dogs. For high energy or dominant dogs, I would probably need a proper and slow introduction to make friends. I think cats are weird and I just want to run after them to figure out what the heck is going on with them! So, I think that covers it. Its been a long time, waiting to find this furever home of mine, and I just hope my furever human finds me soon. If you are reading this, hurry up already I cant wait to meet you! Oh, and my foster mom wanted me to mention that if you adopt me and give me all the love that she knows I deserve, you will be making a human back in Houston very very happy! From her foster: Athena is medium-large size, and should be 60 lbs once she reaches a healthy weight. She is low to medium energy, and not demanding at all. She spends most of her time chilling -- ideally on the couch or by your side. Athena is potty trained (never had an accident!), crate trained, and generally good on a leash. Athena does enjoy a good snuggle or petting session, and gets excited about squeaky toys, walks, and squirrels to chase. Unfortunately, she also likes to chase cats, so would do best in a home without them. She gets along well with her (friendly high energy female) foster dog sister, and has behaved well when meeting other dogs. She has met several children and been polite with them. Athena is generally quiet, but does bark if a stranger, strange dog, or squirrel is in her yard. This sweet girl will be available at our adoption event this coming Saturday at the Fort Collins Petco 2211 S. College Ave from 10am-1pm. If you are interested in this friendly girl, please submit an application through our website aaanimalrescue.org. Please feel free to email with any questions XXXX@gmail.com.Breed and size disclosure: As a rescue all of our dogs come to us from high-kill shelters or other rescues, so we do not get a lot of background or information on these dogs. We occasionally receive the mother with the puppies, but in most cases both parents are unknown. Because of this we do not know the full breeding of the dogs. We are required to list the dogs based on the breeds provided to us on their records, but they are all mixed breeds as far as we know, and we cannot guarantee the actual breeds of any of these dogs. Since the full breeding of the dogs is unknown we can also only give you an educated guess on the full-grown size of the dogs. All of the current information we have on the dogs is listed in their bio above. More information may be available at our adoption event, since a lot of the fosters turn in report cards on how the dog has done in their care when they drop them off. Adoption Process: If you are interested in adopting from us, the first step of our adoption process is to fill out an application online at http://aaanimalrescue.org/adoption_app.html. It takes us 24-48 hours to process your application and get back to you, via email. Applications turned in Friday afternoon or Saturday morning will not be processed since we are preparing for or at our adoption event. We do have applications on site at our events, but are not always able to approve them at that time and many of the dogs will already have holds on them, so we suggest you fill out an application prior to attending an adoption event. We can place a hold on one dog per approved applicant after a deposit fee has been received, please do not ask to hold a dog if you have not turned in an application and been approved, for the first hour of our adoption event, so that they can get the first chance to meet and hopefully adopt that dog. After the first hour of the event all dogs are available on a first come, first serve basis. If you already have an approved application on file, there will just be more paperwork and the adoption fee at the event, but you will be able to take home the dog/puppy that day. Since we are foster based and do not have a location, our dogs are only available to meet at our events, unless otherwise noted.
