Dennis, Dachshund For Adoption In Brookfield, Connecticut

Price:
$150
Location:
Brookfield, CT
Description:

Dennis is a six-year-old dachshund who is looking for a very special home, with people who understand how to take care of a paralyzed dog. He came to Little Paws because his previous owners couldn’t meet his needs, but we are going to find the wonderful people who will. Environment Dennis is not able to be house trained because of his paralysis. He has no control over his bladder or bowels, so he wears a belly band and a diaper. He sleeps in a crate at nighttime and uses a drag bag to move about the house. Dennis doesn’t need a fenced backyard, but he enjoys wheeling along on walks. He can’t be in a home with people who are gone a lot since he needs to be expressed or he will leak. Pets & People Dennis is affectionate and eager to please. There are currently four other dachshunds in the home with him and he does well with them. They band together to sing the song of their people when visitors arrive, but Dennis isn’t otherwise very vocal. We’ve noticed he settles a bit quicker with women, but he’s ok with just about anyone. He’s untested with children and won’t be placed with them due to his disability. Health Sweet Dennis doesn’t let his disability get in the way. He needs to be expressed 4-5 times a day and wears his belly band and diaper 24/7. He uses a drag bag in the house, and wheels for walks but otherwise leads a normal dachshund life (ideally full of treats). Location Dennis is available for adoption from Frederick, MD. Please email XXXX@icloud.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Dennis is $150. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 23, 2024, 11:49 amAdoption process6 Step Adoption Process 1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog) NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application. 2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference. 3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available. 4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved. 5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family. 6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.Shelter locationAre you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found.
