Duchess is one of four females out of a litter of five. She is a gorgeous chocolate with tan markings on her eyebrows and legs. In the photo of the litter, at: Angel is at 1 o'clock, Princess is at 3 o'clock, Duchess is at 5 o'clock, Stella is at 9 o'clock, and Charlie is at 11 o'clock.This is my dog's first litter on her second heat. The dam is a party colored chocolate merle, and the sire is also mine. He is a chocolate color. Both are pictured in the last photo of my 3 Cockers.These puppies are absolutely precious. They have been socialized and exposed to kids at our summer camp. They are playful but calmer than my Australian puppies were. I've owned Cocker Spaniels for my personal enjoyment since I was 24 years old, and let's just say that AARP keeps sending me marketing material now. I love the breed because they are calm enough to be content indoors during the winter when I'm working on taxes yet active enough to ride every horseback trail ride I take out during the rest of the year. They have run the trails with me for as much as 3 hours in a day. Granted, they are tired (and so am I) at the end of the day, but they are quiet as little mice when we get home after a 12-hour day at the farm. They ride on the 4-wheeler and the tractor with me as I go about taking care of my horses. They get along with my daughter's toy and mini Australian Shepherds and Corgis at the farm as well as the 2 farm cats, but they are hot after the squirrels, which is okay with me since they are bushy tailed rodents who do a lot of damage on our farm. They will also go after the pigeons who carry Salmonella, but will leave my guineas alone. In other words, they are very trainable and respectful.So if you're looking for a medium sized dog who is very loving, intelligent, respectful, and active when the opportunity presents itself, you will enjoy owning a Cocker Spaniel. They are great family dogs provided you teach your children how to interact with puppies and dogs appropriately. If your kids are too rough with animals, you may want to consider a larger, calmer dog who can fend for themselves a little better. At least, that's my opinion.
