German Shepherd Dog Dog for Adoption in Des Moines, Iowa, 50325 USNickname: Sage Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Sage is 8-month-old pure bred German shepherd. She came into rescue as an owner surrender with her siblings Hunter and Max. They were born 6/13/2023. Sage and her brothers had little to no interaction with dogs outside of her home prior to being surrendered so she doesn't feel very comfortable interacting with new dogs at first. She is finally learning it's okay to be a playful, happy puppy. Sage loves people and will want to snuggle all day. She is potty trained, does well in the crate, and is doing better on the leash every day. She currently has three foster (small to large) siblings that she is doing great with. However, we have been working on reactivity to new dogs. She is fearful of new dogs and is startled by quick movement. She has been doing better on this by slow introductions and going to training class, which will be important to continue with her new family. Once she warms up to new dogs, she is great with them and just wants to play and cuddle. She will need someone who can dedicate time to exercise and train her as she is a typical German Shepherd with high energy. She would do great with a family that does have a playful dog that she can be introduced to slowly. German Shepherds are an intelligent, loyal, working breed. They need an outlet for their physical and mental well-being. Applicants must have a plan for how to train and exercise Sage every day to avoid her getting bored and developing undesirable behaviors as she grows into an adult dog. Applicants must be willing to sign up for our referred training program, have a fenced yard, and recent experience owning or having owned and trained a German Shepherd or similar working dog breed.
