Description:

Huskies Mix Dog for Adoption in Wakefield, Rhode Island, 02886 USNickname: Mia Posted Breed: Husky / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $685. To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see HERE Age: 5 1/2 years (as of 1/18/24) Weight: 64 lbs (as of 1/12/24) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Meet Mia, a playful Husky with a heart full of love. Her personality shines through her sweet and friendly demeanor. Her goofy antics will keep you laughing, while her gentle nature will make you feel loved and cherished. Mia is incredibly smart and loves to show off her playful side, especially when she's around people. Mia is housetrained and walks pretty good on the leash and would love to join you on a walk, run, or hike. She is calm in the crate, but her current foster family prefers to give her free roam in the house during the day and sleep in her own room at night. A fenced yard would be ideal so she could run and play safely, but if that's not available she will need lots of leash walks and opportunities for off-leash play in a fenced area. An obedience would be great for Mia; it will help teach her good manners and commands, further socialization with other dogs and people, and will help build that very important bond between a dog and her human. Mia's unique blend of charm, intelligence, and playfulness makes her the perfect addition to any family. Bring Mia home and experience the joy of a loyal, loving companion. Mia’s story: She was found as a stray very underweight and had a very thin haircoat. Mia has made great progress putting on needed weight with her hair coming back beautifully. She is now living with a loving foster family and doing great! Medical Note: This dog is being treated/has been treated for heartworm disease. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. Whenever possible, SOSARL advocates for following the American Heartworm Society guidelines for heartworm disease treatment as the safest and most effective methods; the active portion of this treatment protocol can take up to four months to complete. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and will be ready to travel north and be placed into an adoptive home. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment and is expected to complete treatment with no complications. Please ask your Adoption Counselor for the specific treatment protocol used for and current status of this dog. Medical Note: This dog has tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia. This does not mean that this dog had/has an active infection of ehrlichiosis, only that the dog was exposed or infected in the past. This dog is/has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and is being treated/has been treated preventatively with a 28-day course of doxycycline. This dog is ready for adoption, though may continue to test positive for exposure to ehrlichia for some time. Please see here for more information on ehrlichia. Medical Note: This dog is being treated/has been treated for demodectic mange, a non-contagious skin condition. The dog has responded well to this treatment and is ready for adoption, though may still have some bald patches and/or thin fur in places. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months after adoption for adults or until 18 months of age for puppies. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange and talk with your Adoption Counselor about this condition. Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: .sosarl/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
