Description:

Huskies Mix Dog for Adoption in Arlington, Virginia, 22204 USNickname: Hibiscus (Bisky) Posted Breed: Husky / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Hibiscus, affectionately known as Bisky by her foster family. Bisky was found wandering as a very pregnant and thin stray dog and ended up in a rural county shelter in SC. She gave birth to her puppies at the shelter, which is not a safe environment for her or her puppies who are so vulnerable at such a young age. Thankfully, one of our volunteers became aware of the situation and offered to foster the family and get them to a safe environment. Bisky has been in her foster home for over 2 months now learning what home life, comfort, and security are all about. Her puppies have all been weaned and she’s been spayed. Motherhood is behind her now, and she’s ready to start her new life. Briskly is currently living with another dog and two cats, and does well as part of a pack. When she first arrived, everything was new to her, but she’s acclimated well to home life and her foster parents have been taking her on outings to get some social exposure outside the home. She’s still very young and learns quickly, and her primary aim in life is to be cuddled up in your lap…she’s very people-oriented. We checked in with her foster mom, Britany, for a Q&A about Bisky: How does she do as part of your pack? Bisky LOVES to play with our pup, Mowgli. She has met large, excited, calm, and small dogs - she gets the zoomies but gives them their own space. She has been in a home with cats and does great inside with them. However, she will chase cats if she’s off-leash and sees them outside. I don’t think she would harm a cat, but her prey drive does kick in when they run outside. She will chase, but again, when she catches up she just sniffs them and wants to play. Do you think she would be better in a home with dogs or fine as an only dog too? I think she would do fine in either situation. She LOVES people. She wants to be held, in a lap, or rolling around for belly rubs, but she really likes other dogs too. I think she would thrive in a home with a playmate to follow and learn from. Her personality is timid initially when experiencing new things. She comes out of her shell when she sees people she remembers. It only takes a few days though and she is ready to romp. How are her house manners? She is an adolescent pup, we think closer to a year old. She’s still learning basic commands, but is very food-motivated and wants to make her people happy. She is quiet in the house and has no issues being left alone. She likes puppy puzzles but does need the chew-resistant options as she begins trying to shred the lick mats. She is housetrained and crate-trained and will let us know she needs to go out but she means in that very moment- so a bark means “I need to go now!”. She sleeps and eats in her crate, and is quiet when hearing other animals and people nearby. As a young dog, she needs someone committed to her daily exercise and stimulation. Would you say she's an active, moderate energy, or more mellow dog? Overall, she has a medium energy level but seems to adapt to her environment really well. She loves running and would make an excellent companion for someone who enjoys time outdoors. However, she also enjoys mellow evenings inside. Leash walking skills? We go for walks in our neighborhood regularly. She does a great job on the leash even with distractions. She does not pull but sometimes will still walk right under your feet. No reactivity or issues walking near other dogs. Very loud noises will make her get closer to the person walking her, but I have not observed a flight response. The areas we have walked her have high foot traffic, other animals, and cars - she did great with all of that. Have you seen her around kids? Yes, she did great with a toddler and an older child. How would you describe her personality? Bisky is so loving and snuggly. She just wants to be loved. She is shy for a few days with new people but only in the sense that you won't see her full personality until she trusts you. She will still approach strangers for attention but is timid/submissive about it. She is not snappy or nervous. She will still wag her tail and lower her head. She is really the sweetest girl. Once she warms up, she bounces around like a kangaroo! ******** If you are ready to add a very sweet, young submissive pup to your pack who is both adaptable and an ideal size, Bisky is your girl!
