If you've been won over by this million dollar smile - you're not the first. Prince is a 2-year old, 13lb shih tzu mix who may be "Special Needs" - but we think he's perfect, just the way he is. Friendly to humans and other dogs, Prince is an utter goofball who loves to play, and despite getting around on just his front two legs, will even play catch. His favorite hobby? Cuddling on the couch next to you, begging for a treat (or two), or soaking up the sun, laying in the grass. His foster family says that he is the "sweetest and easiest foster they've ever had". Prince joined AARF as an 11-month old pup after being found by Animal Control with matting so severe, his front and back legs were connected, resulting in severe deformities to his hind legs that causes him to only use his back legs for balance. After one unsuccessful surgery and multiple surgical consults, the consensus is that Prince will continue to lead a happy, fulfilling life as he is. The only thing Prince needs now? A forever home that is every bit as special as he is. Prince is well-behaved, walks on a harness, and is house- and crate-trained. He likes kids but due to his special needs, kids age 10+ may be a better fit. Prince is not in pain and is extremely mobile, however will likely eventually develop arthritis and could potentially need a set of wheels to get around later on in life. While he can manage a few stairs, potential adopters ideally will have few stairs for him to navigate or be willing to scoop him up and carry him up and down as needed. Prince is an absolute wonder - but it has nothing to do with him walking on just two legs. He's a wonder because he's a regular, normal, fun-loving, happy dog despite everything he's been through. By the time you meet us, we've already been spayed/neutered (if age appropriate) and microchipped. We've been checked by a veterinarian, and we're up to date on age appropriate immunizations against rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parainfluenza, and parvovirus). We've been tested for heartworm and other tick borne diseases (4DX), and we've started our heartworm and flea preventive medications. Some of us have had extensive surgeries, dental work, or other necessary procedures.
